Rare Set of Desire LeRoy Cabinet Plates
Fans and Collectors of Royal Crown Derby should mark the 7th February 2009 in their diary, as a rare set of cabinet plates decorated and signed by Desire Leroy go under the hammer at;

Lot No 179 is described as ;
A Fine Set of Twelve Royal Crown Derby Gilt and Turquoise Porcelain Cabinet Plates, puce mark, royal warrant and retailer mark for David Collamore, N.Y., date cypher for 1899, impressed "DERBY" with shape no.
Decorated by Desiré Leroy, royal gadrooned rim, the cartouches with enameled floral sprays having jeweled gilt scroll surrounds, flanked by swags enclosing stippled panels.
Each center medallion finely painted with a unique floral bouquet, signed "Leroy".
Desiré Leroy apprenticed at Sèvres.
Leroy then moved to Minton at the age of 38 and in 1890 was given his own studio at Royal Crown Derby, the same year Queen Victoria awarded Derby a Royal warrant.
A writer for The Pall Mall Magazine, in Dec. 1906, stated
"there can be little doubt that when Leroy's work is antique it will be worth its weight in gold, for everything that comes from his cunning hand is a unique gem of art itself." -- Reference: John Twitchett and Betty Bailey, Royal Crown Derby, Suffolk, 1988, p.84-86.
